چکیده

The images of the sea surface roughness observed by PALSAR on ALOS over the Philippine Archipelagos were studied with other opportunities of satellite observations including MODIS and other measurement to understand an imaging mechanism by SAR. The Tabulas Strait and the Mindanao Sea, which are connecting the Pacific and the South China Sea and blocking the North Equatorial Current, were selected to study the physical and biological contribution to the sea surface roughness observed by SAR. The data from MODIS on TERRA and AQUA were refereed as a semi-synchronized observation and the reanalysis wind data from NCEP were refereed as the observation on the same day. The intensity of sea surface roughness is represented as the power spectrum in the frequency domain from each specific region, where the roughness is modulated by the wind, the upwelling, the rain, and the surface film associated with biological activities. Although the chlorophyll-a concentration observed by MODIS is not the direct estimate of the surface film, the chlorophyll-a concentration would be refereed to represent the surface film as the zooplankton being expected proportional to chlorophyll-a concentration and the associated products as a result of the surface film being expected proportional. The wind direction and speed from the NCEP data set were applied to analyze the contribution to the sea surface roughness, which has a positive contribution against the surface film. The power spectrum obtained from the different texture patterns in the sea surface roughness observed by SAR exhibited the different intensities in the frequency domain. The correlation plots between the power spectrum at the certain frequency and the chlorophyll-a concentration showed a good relationship, where the negative correlation was observed as the increase of chlorophyll-a concentration. The reduction of surface roughness by the surface film associated with the biological activities were confirmed under a limited a wind speed .

Surface Evaluation of Resin Zein Films Containing Sugar Plasticizers by Permeability and Atomic Force Microscopy Analysis

Zein is one of the best biopolymer for edible film making and sugars are natural plasticizers for biopolymers. In this research, sugars (fructose, galactose and glucose) at three levels (0.5, 0.7, 1 g/g of zein) were used as plasticizers for zein protein films and their water vapor permeability (WVP), oxygen permeability (OP) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) topography were studied. The p...

Retrieval of sea-ice thickness distribution in the Sea of Okhotsk from ALOS/PALSAR backscatter data

Although satellite data are useful for obtaining ice-thickness distribution for perennial sea ice or in stable thin-sea-ice areas, they are still largely an unresolved issue for the seasonal ice zone (SIZ). We address this problem using L-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR). In the SIZ, ice-thickness growth is closely related to deformation, so surface roughness is expected to correlate with ic...

Discrimination of Geological Top-Formations by their Morphology through SAR Images and via Fractal Geometry implementation in IEM Backscattering Model(Case Study: Zagros Thrust Belt)

Morphological discrimination of geological top-formations is the supplemental procedure of geological mapping; so in situ measurements to register geomorphological data are unavoidable; though due to the impassable and fault cliffs field operations to visit all areas within a geological map is almost impossible. Microwave or radar remote sensing, via synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is cap...

Detection and Discrimination of Sea Surface Films in the Coastal Zone of Northeastern Black Sea Using Sar Data

Results of radar monitoring of the sea surface in the Russian sector of the Black Sea coastal zone are presented. The attention was focused on the detection of oil pollution as well as biogenic and anthropogenic surfactant films. The basic data were high resolution radar images obtained by synthetic aperture radars (SAR) on board Envisat and ERS-2 satellites of the European Space Agency. Spatia...

OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF THIN Cu FILMS AS A FUNCTION OF SUBSTRATE TEMPERATURE

Copper films (250 nm) deposited on glass substrates, at different substrate temperatures. Their optical properties were measured by ellipsometery (single wavelength of 589.3 nm) and spectrophotometery in the spectral range of 200–2600 nm. Kramers Kronig method was used for the analysis of the reflectivity curves of Cu films to obtain the optical constants of the films, while ellipsometery measu...
